Red Cross Installs New On-Site T.V. Camera in Disaster Operations Center
Red Cross Executives Available for Real-Time On-Air Interviews
The American Red Cross today announced the installation of a VideoLink ReadyCam(TM) in the Red Cross Disaster Operations Center (DOC) in Washington, D.C. National television outlets now have the opportunity to interview Red Cross executives and spokespeople for live broadcast segments using fiber optic connectivity.
The DOC is where the Red Cross monitors disasters and emergencies -- around the country and around the globe -- 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week. Prior to and during a major disaster, the DOC becomes a hub of activity where Red Crossers make major decisions related to disaster preparations: the staging of relief supplies, positioning of Emergency Response Vehicles (ERVs), and deploying of volunteers.
Red Cross executives available for interviews include Jack McGuire, interim president and CEO; Joe Becker, senior vice president for preparedness and response; and Armond Mascelli, vice president, domestic response operations. Other Red Cross spokespeople are available for interviews specific to their area of expertise.
Booking Information: To request an interview with Red Cross executives or spokespeople, please contact the Red Cross public affairs line in the Disaster Operations Center (DOC) at (202) 303-5551.
Once an appearance is confirmed with the Red Cross, please call VideoLink Operations at 617-600-2500 for technical guidance and cost information. (http://www.videolink.tv/)
The American Red Cross has helped people mobilize to help their neighbors for 125 years. Last year, victims of a record 72,883 disasters, most of them fires, turned to the nearly 1 million volunteers and 35,000 employees of the Red Cross for help and hope. Through more than 800 locally supported chapters, more than 15 million people each year gain the skills they need to prepare for and respond to emergencies in their homes, communities and world. Almost 4 million people give blood -- the gift of life -- through the Red Cross, making it the largest supplier of blood and blood products in the United States. The Red Cross helps thousands of U.S. service members separated from their families by military duty stay connected. As part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, a global network of more than 180 national societies, the Red Cross helps restore hope and dignity to the world's most vulnerable people. An average of 91 cents of every dollar the Red Cross spends is invested in humanitarian services and programs. The Red Cross is not a government agency; it relies on donations of time, money, and blood to do its work.
