New York City Rocker Creates Anthem for VoteJacksonville.com Campaign
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- A new rock single inspired by the citizen petition drive to bring the U.S. Navy back to Cecil Field will air across the Jacksonville region as momentum builds for the November ballot issue.
"Fight for Freedom," an anthem for the VoteJacksonville.com campaign, heralds those citizens who "hold their heads up high for Cecil Field," and supporters who are taking a stand in the fight for freedom. Listeners can download the song at http://www.votejacksonville.com/ .
"Fight for Freedom" was written and produced by Mark Stancato, songwriter and vocalist for the New York City rock band "Exit 8." Stancato has released three EP's since 2003, and his last EP self-titled under the Exit 8 name garnered coast-to-coast radio play and was recently featured on XM Satellite Radio's Radar Report as one of the top 12 most up-and-coming bands in the nation. Stancato also formed the New Jersey rock band "World Wide Breakdown," and he is currently working on an independent full record release with the group.
The people of Jacksonville who are campaigning to re-open the Cecil Field Navy base and "bring the jets home" inspired "Fight For Freedom," Stancato said.
"It's wonderful to see the supporters of the VoteJacksonville campaign getting behind this issue and exercising their first amendment rights," Stancato said. "To me that's what it's all about. We're fortunate to live in a country where we can express our views and thoughts without fear of oppression and fight for a cause that's close to the heart. I wanted to write a song that spoke to the issue while expressing gratitude for our right to be free."
The song is currently being distributed to all Jacksonville-area radio stations and will air in advance of the November vote on re-establishing the U.S. Navy's East Coast Master Jet Base at Cecil Field.
"It's an incredible song," said Ken Underwood, Co-Founder of VoteJacksonville.com. "It condemns the Cecil Field area developers and Jacksonville's elected leaders who have put their economic and personal interests ahead of the our nation's defense."
Referring to the City's pending lawsuit against Jacksonville voters' validated referendum, Underwood added, "In Cuba, it's perfectly legal to block citizens from voting. In Jacksonville, our elected leaders are attempting to implement the same result through legal shenanigans and numbers that just don't add up. It's improper, it's without honor, and it's an embarrassment for our community. Fortunately, our supporters won't stand for it, and we'll continue the fight for freedom until the jets return to Cecil and our Navy pilots get nothing short of the what they deserve: the best training environment in the world."
According to a University of West Florida Study, returning the Navy to Cecil Field will create over 31,000 well-paying jobs and boost the area's economy by $2.6 billion a year.
