Pump Audio and CD Baby Partner to Expand Distribution and Promotional Opportunities for Independent Artists
Deal Broadens Roster of Independent Music Available for Fast and Legal Commercial Use in Digital and Traditional Media
HUDSON VALLEY, N.Y., July 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Pump Audio, the leading provider of quality independent music to content creators globally, and CD Baby, the largest retailer of independent music on the web, announced a partnership today to make music from CD Baby artists available for licensing through Pump Audio. The deal will broaden Pump Audio's catalog of music for professional customers in TV, advertising and interactive media, while giving more than 130,000 independent musicians from CD Baby a potential new revenue channel.
"We're thrilled to be partnering with a company that shares our vision of exposing great, independent music to larger audiences, while ensuring that the independent artists get a fair deal," said Steve Ellis, founder and CEO of Pump Audio. "By working with CD Baby, we will be able to provide our clients with an even wider array of music to fit their production needs."
Pump Audio will be given access to the CD Baby catalog of over 600,000 original songs and will be able to offer these songs for licensing to clients in TV and advertising. This will make the licensing process much simpler for CD Baby artists and for Pump Audio clients looking to access an even broader cross section of music than that already offered by Pump.
Pump Audio helps independent musicians license their music to traditional producers in TV, advertising and interactive media through the PumpBox, its advanced search software and delivery system, as well as to content creators of all types through the recently launched MyPump Soundtrack service on the Web. Pump Audio's production customers include MTV Networks, NBC Studios, HBO, New Line Cinema and advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi. Under Pump Audio's artist friendly system, licensing revenues are split equally with musicians, and the artists retain complete ownership over their music.
"Pump Audio and CD Baby both treat independent musicians with the respect they deserve but rarely get. We both help artists make money from doing what they love," said Derek Sivers, president of CD Baby. "Pump Audio gives our artists even greater opportunities to make their music available to anyone who wants to pay for it."
CD Baby serves as a digital distributor for independent artists, providing them with access to worldwide sales and distribution without having to sign away their music to record labels. CD Baby has paid out over $30 million to artists through online sales, and through Pump Audio is opening the market for production licensing to its artists.
