Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest Sets New Records for Biggest Opening Weekend, Biggest Opening Day and Biggest Day-Before-Opening on the Nation's Largest Movie Ticketing Service

LOS ANGELES, July 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Fandango, the nation's largest online, phone and mobile movie ticketing service, announced today new ticketing records were broken by Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, which enjoyed a projected $132 million* domestic opening weekend at the box office.

A few ticketing facts from Fandango:

- The biggest three-day opening weekend ticket sales in the history of the
company occurred on Friday-Sunday, July 7-9.
- Fandango's ticket sales for Pirates' opening weekend were twice that of
any other film's opening weekend ticket sales this year.
- Fandango enjoyed its best ticket-selling day (on Friday, July 7) and
best day-before-opening (Thursday, July 6) in company history.
- The Pirates sequel broke Fandango's hourly sales records (on Friday),
selling an average of nearly 10 Pirates tickets per second.
- Pirates represents over 90% percent of the company's weekly ticket sales
(as of Sunday at 10:00 am PT).

Over the weekend, Fandango conducted exit poll surveys with thousands of
moviegoers. The results indicated that:

- 72% of Pirates moviegoers would "definitely recommend" the movie to
their friends.
- 78% of Pirates moviegoers rated it "excellent" or "very good."
- 79% said they would buy the movie on DVD.
- 63% said that Johnny Depp was a main factor in their decision to see the
movie.
