AudioCinema.com Offers Alternative Venue for Screenwriters; Writers and Digital-Ready Actors Find New Stage on Internet
AUSTIN, Texas, July 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Screenwriters now have a new avenue to market their stories and, at the same time, generate an income. AudioCinema.com, a new internet-based production company, has designed a platform to showcase screenwriting talent through the production of audio features performed by professional actors from around the world.
"Sadly, a great number of compelling stories never make it to the big screen," stated Ray Gross, founder and CEO of AudioCinema.com. "With the growing popularity of mobile audio devices, the demand for original content has never been greater. We hope to cultivate a listening audience willing to pay a nominal fee toward audio feature downloads which, in turn, will keep our writers writing and actors acting."
Mr. Gross is also the writer and director of AudioCinema.com's first production, "Chrysalis," a sci-fi thriller that placed as a semi-finalist in this year's Creative Screenwriting Magazine's AAA Screenplay Competition. "Having a script come to life at AudioCinema.com is an inspiring experience for a writer," Mr. Gross added, "an opportunity to finally meet the characters that shape our stories."
After fifteen years of placing in contests, optioning scripts, and even landing a five-picture deal with a New York production company (which went out of business before money exchanged hands), Mr. Gross found himself in an all too familiar place for screenwriters -- guardian of a dusty box of scripts with an ever-fading chance of being produced. This year alone, approximately 50,000 screenplays will be registered with the Writers Guild of America, with less than one percent evolving into a motion picture development deal.
AudioCinema.com was born after Mr. Gross discovered how popular and entertaining live screenplay readings were with local theater groups. He suspected the same approach would appeal to a much larger audience and was pleasantly surprised to find the Internet teeming with highly motivated, digital-ready talent eager to contribute.
Mr. Gross explained that interpreting a screenplay into an audio production is somewhat of an art form. Building upon a story's theme through clever transitions, compelling musical soundtrack and realistic sound effects is intricate business, but highly rewarding when it all comes together -- a technique that AudioCinema.com expects to tailor to each new feature and genre.
"The ultimate goal is to get these screenplays noticed by the film industry and have them made into motion pictures," Mr. Gross concluded, "but, on the other hand, screenwriters may find the audio medium itself a rewarding alternative where creative freedom is never constrained by a filming budget."
