Tellabs Turbocharges Broadband Service Speeds for Video Migration
NAPERVILLE, Ill., June 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Service providers can now bring faster video and data (along with voice) to subscribers by adding Very High Data Rate Digital Subscriber Line-2 (VDSL2) and fast Ethernet to the Tellabs(R) 1150 multiservice access system.
This enhancement, coupled with a fiber-to-the-curb (FTTC) architecture, enables speeds up to 100 Megabits-per-second (Mbps) to each subscriber for the delivery of high-quality video services, including video on demand (VoD), Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) and High-Definition Television (HDTV), along with voice and high-speed data. The Tellabs 1150 system, part of the Tellabs(R) DynamicHome(SM) solution, enables service providers to address copper DLC and fiber-to-the node (FTTN) deployments as well as ultra-high-bandwidth FTTC and fiber to the premises (FTTP) in a single platform.
"The Tellabs 1150 system offers Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) migration, broadband data, advanced video and traditional voice with multiple service delivery options, minimizing capital and operating costs," said Carl DeWilde, executive vice president of broadband products for Tellabs. "Through the Tellabs(R) DynamicHome(SM) solution, Tellabs enhances customer choices for deep-fiber deployments."
According to Infonetics Research, higher-bandwidth VDSL2 will enable service providers to offer new revenue-generating services such as networked personal video recorders, video on demand, interactive gaming and video telephony. Additionally, Infonetics sees VDSL2 as a major contributor to the growth in the Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) market, projected to grow 96% between 2005 and 2009, when it will reach 245 million subscribers worldwide.
In addition to VSDL2, the Tellabs 1150 system also supports native-mode Ethernet service connections to subscribers in Multiple Dwelling Unit (MDU) applications, such as apartment buildings and college campuses, and small to medium enterprise customers. The VDSL2 and Ethernet capabilities will be generally available later this month.
