June 21 Is International Surfing Day

For the second year in a row, surfers around the world will celebrate June 21st as International Surfing Day. The first day of summer has become a day for surfers to come together in a global surf party. Along the coasts surfers will participate in hundreds of organized beach cleanups and group surf sessions, while inland surfers will join together for group paddle-outs through lakes and rivers. Paul Diamond, editor of the recently released book Surfing's Greatest Misadventures, says he'll be joining a Surfrider-sponsored cleanup at Ocean Beach in San Diego. The book presents 30 gripping stories about wipeouts, shark attacks, tsunamis, and comical pranks -- especially recommended for those who can only make it to the couch on June 21st.
