Toshiba Reveals New Line-Up of DLP(R) Projection TVs Offering a New Level of Picture Quality and New Beautiful Space Saving Designs

Toshiba Projection TV models feature proprietary TALEN(TM) engine utilizing DLP technology, bright Radiance 150(TM) watt lamp, PixelPure Hi-Bit(TM) 12-bit video processing, and SoundStrip(TM) Speaker technology for a stylish ultra-compact design

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla., May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Further expanding its DLP Projection TV leadership, Toshiba America Consumer Products, L.L.C. ("Toshiba") announced today its 2006 line-up of nine new models, all with industry leading picture quality and stunning designs.

"At Toshiba we say Image is Everything," said Scott Ramirez, Vice President of Marketing, Toshiba America Consumer Products TV Group. "By combining our TALEN engine, Radiance 150 watt lamp, and PixelPure Hi-Bit 12-bit video processing, we are providing the best possible on-screen Image. Wrapping that in our new compact Scoop Cabinetry with SoundStrip, we are providing the high-style image that consumers want for their living rooms."

Toshiba's 720p models with DLP technology will utilize the TALEN 5 engine. This engine incorporates the HD5 DLP chip from Texas Instruments with the Radiance 150-watt lamp to deliver sharper images with deep contrast and amazing brightness.

Because the processing makes the picture, Toshiba's new models utilize Toshiba's advanced PixelPure Hi-Bit(TM) Digital Video Processing. This proprietary high-speed system provides 12-bit Digital Video Processing to ensure superior picture quality. PixelPure Hi-Bit creates 4,096 steps of gradation, representing a significant improvement for Toshiba picture technology, and for the industry. With expanded gradation, enhanced real speed progressive scanning, improved digital video noise reduction, increased sharpness, dynamic gamma control and up to 14-bit internal processing, these DLP models are positioned to set the new picture quality standard.

Toshiba's new 50" and 56" diagonally measured 720p DLP models incorporate advanced SoundStrip speaker technology. The benefit of the SoundStrip speaker system is that it allows for a more modern compact cabinet design, without sacrificing any of the rich home theater sound. The SRS(R) WOW(TM) system is added to ensure full deep bass and excellent imaging.

The Scoop Design cabinetry is so compact that the front view of the 50" diagonally measured DLP PTV model is actually smaller than many 50" diagonally measured flat panel TV sets in the industry. While not a Scoop Design, the new 42" diagonally measured model is still only 39 1/4" wide! This is actually smaller than a 36" diagonally measured Direct View CTV has been, making it the perfect replacement model.

All DLP models include ATSC/QAM digital tuning, which enable the sets to receive both digital terrestrial and digital cable-in-the-clear broadcasts, and dual HDMI(TM) (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) digital inputs. 50" diagonally measured and larger models also include a CableCARD(TM) slot for digital cable compatibility (DCR), Channel Browser(TM) and THINC(TM) RJ-45 network capability, allowing consumers to connect the TV to a PC in the home and play back MP3 audio files and JPEG pictures, and a new home theater remote control.

The 50" and 56" diagonally measured Cinema Series 720p models offer all black cabinetry and come with TV Guide On Screen(R), a PC input, HD Window POP, and the new ColorMaster(TM) color management system which provides hue, saturation and brightness control of six individual colors. ColorMaster creates deep natural colors for increased depth and more realistic images.

Leading in performance, Toshiba's XHD(TM) 1080p models incorporate the TALEN X(TM) engine. This engine utilizes the xHD5 DLP chip from Texas Instruments and Toshiba's Xtreme BLAC(TM) aperture control technology, to provide twice the pixel resolution and twice the contrast. Toshiba's XHD technology provides the detailed picture resolution and brightness necessary for 60" diagonal and larger screen sizes.

For those who demand unrivaled picture quality, Toshiba offers four XHD 1080p models. All models come equipped with Xtreme BLAC aperture control, HD window picture over picture (POP), and TV Guide On Screen(R). Adding ultimate sophistication, Cinema Series XHD models come in a differentiated all black cabinet, with a high-gloss black bezel and offer a PC input and Virtual Dolby(R) Digital.
