Ruckus Digital Entertainment Network Shoots to 100,000 Subscribers

Free and Legal Online Music Holds Growing Appeal for Students Nationwide

HERNDON, Va., May 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Ruckus, a leading digital entertainment network for colleges and universities, today announced its network of users has grown to an unprecedented 100,000 students. Ruckus expects that number will double before the end of the fall 2006 semester.

Over the past month alone, the Ruckus user base has increased by more than 40%, serving as testament to the popularity of Ruckus' online entertainment service and the rising level of responsibility among universities and students toward legal entertainment consumption online. Ruckus' direct relationships with top record labels, film studios and TV networks make it possible for the company to offer entertainment for download without concern over copyright infringement.

Ruckus' digital music service, offered free to students, includes a selection of over 1.5 million virus-free songs available for download. Since January, students from over 50 colleges and universities across the country have downloaded more than 20 million music tracks from Ruckus across a variety of genres.

"Students entering college today are already accustomed to the convenience of online entertainment," said Brad Vaughn, vice president of campus sales for Ruckus. "They've been emailing, listening to music, watching video clips and so much more online, and those behaviors will undoubtedly carry on into their college years, whether through lawful or unlawful means. By offering Ruckus from the start, institutions are able to foster responsibility among students for their online behaviors, adding value and security to their college experience."

In addition to Ruckus' free music network, for a small fee per semester, students can access thousands of Hollywood movies and hit TV shows. Ruckus also serves as a way for students to network and meet friends by viewing others' profiles; sharing media libraries, play lists and friend lists; sending instant messages; and leaving messages on discussion boards.
