Ad Agency Rejects Clients in Un-American Territories

TAMPA, Fla., May 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Discount television advertising agency Cheap TV Spots announces that it will no longer serve clients whose headquarters or advertising territories are located in the state of South Dakota, or in the cities of Omaha, NE and Black Jack, MO. The move comes after the passage of legislation in those areas that, the company observes, "cast aside American values."

The banned areas have all recently passed legislation that appear to limit civil liberties or exclude groups based on constitutionally protected factors such as race, gender, sexual orientation and marital status. The South Dakota legislature recently approved a bill to prohibit abortions in that state. Nebraska legislators passed laws segregating Omaha schools into black, Hispanic and white districts. Black Jack, Missouri city council members rejected a measure allowing unmarried couples with multiple children to live together, resulting in the possible eviction of such families from their homes.

"After careful consideration, we have decided to eliminate these areas from our ad production and airing territories because we feel they are opposed to the principles upon which the country was founded," said agency spokesman, Jeffrey Hilton. "While this deeply saddens us, we feel it is in the best interest of our company, and a show of respect for our other clients and their customers in the rest of the United States."

Advertising agencies have a bad reputation, deserved or not, for bowing to the will of disingenuous clients. Historically, however, declining to serve such clientele is within the purview of advertising best practices because hateful, sexist and racist messages are not permitted in television advertising. "We simply will not support communities whose leaders seek to weaken the nation with these ignorant and ultimately counterproductive attitudes," said Hilton.

This move to avoid politically regressive communities will enable the agency to better serve clients elsewhere. "While this may reduce our customer base initially, we don't want to become bogged down in areas where political quagmires impede free speech and force our agency to create media which most of the country would find condescending or disturbing," said Hilton. "We also find that these politically backward areas tend to experience diminished commerce as they are left behind by the more reasonable majority of the country. It is not worth advertising national products or services there. Our company policy is, 'No morals, no ethics - no service.'"

"Some small parts of this country have become strangely intolerant, and frighteningly, seem to be aligned more closely with the oppressive Eastern Bloc countries we poked fun at during the Cold War," added Hilton. "We plan to avoid these pockets of inequity."

The policy goes into effect immediately.
