Hundreds Expected at Local, Festive Israel Independence Day Celebration

PITTSBURGH, May 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Hundreds of people are expected to attend a festive, family-oriented, activity-based celebration of this year's Israel Independence Day celebration set for Wednesday, May 3, 5 to 8:30 p.m. at Upper Mellon Park, Shadyside.

"Yom Ha'atzmaut (Israel Independence Day) is really a time for the entire family to join our community and celebrate the state of Israel," said Leah Garber, the Pittsburgh Community Shlicha (Israel emissary).

Sponsored by the United Jewish Federation of Pittsburgh, this year's Yom Ha'atzmaut celebration will feature a virtual, interactive tour of Israel. There will be activity centers and tents, each representing a different region of Israel, along with a celebration march. The evening will culminate with a concert.

Rick Recht, recognized for his unique brand of contemporary Jewish music, will be the featured entertainment. Along with his band, Recht performs in more than 150 concerts throughout the year in the United States. He is widely known for his appeal to youth and family audiences.
