An Afternoon of Fine Craft, Food and Fun Awaits Attendees of Premier Art Show Event
SHAKER HEIGHTS, Ohio, May 9 /PRNewswire/ -- If you are looking to spend a weekend afternoon with friends or family immersed in fine arts and crafts, enjoying good food and music, Ohio Designer Craftsmen has your ticket.
The 23rd Annual Craftfair at Hathaway Brown includes 150 artists selected from a field of approximately six hundred applicants nationwide. The event showcases handcrafted items, including jewelry, clothing, pottery, glass, fiber art, paintings, sculpture, photography, furniture and more in a one-of- a-kind setting. Founded in 1876, Hathaway Brown School is Ohio's oldest preparatory school for girls. This distinguished campus features historic architecture situated in a myriad of manicured garden landscapes.
"This year promises to be like no other," says Sharon Kokot, Executive Director of Ohio Designer Craftsmen. "We have spent a lot of time making this craft fair stand out from the others. Guests will have access to the work of some of this country's best artists displayed in one of Northeast Ohio's most beautiful sites. But that's just where things start. Mix fine arts and crafts with good food and live music, and you have the perfect weekend afternoon 'experience'."
Attendees will have new artists to discover along with many of their favorites returning to this year's show, including:
- Sharon Johnston - Renowned for her interchangeable jewelry designs,
this Texas artist uses sterling silver and gold along with more than
fifty different types of semi-precious and unusual gemstones to create
a variety of rings, earrings, bracelets and pendants.
- Sally Ryan - This world-class fiber artist from Indiana creates
sophisticated and highly wearable designs in luxurious velvets and
silks. Her award-winning line of silk clothing is well known for fluid
shapes and fresh color combinations.
- Sessin Durgham - This award-winning jewelry artist from Columbus, Ohio
produces designs using silver and gold along with hand-cut precious and
semi-precious stones. Each piece is entirely unique, giving Durgham's
clients the ability to claim that their jewelry is truly one-of-a-kind.
- James Guggina - A ceramist from Florence, Massachusetts, Guggina
produces stylish and functional pottery that has been incredibly
popular at shows and galleries along the east coast and in the Midwest.
He has received commissions to create complete dinnerware sets, and his
brightly-colored ceramic bowls were a sell-out at Craftfair at Hathaway
Brown two years ago. All his work is food safe and can be put in the
microwave or dishwasher.
"While people peruse the vendors and soak up the sun and scenery, they will also enjoy the music of several area artists. The Next Best Thing, led by Alan Bonnis, puts a new spin on traditional folk and blues classics," says Kokot. "Local guitarist Frank Starr will also perform a variety of light rock classics."
The Craftfair at Hathaway Brown, June 16 -18, is presented by Ohio Designer Craftsmen, a nonprofit organization established in 1963. Headquartered in Columbus, the organization is dedicated to providing professional support to craft artists, encouraging creative growth, and building public awareness, appreciation and collection of fine craft.
