Zodiac Gaming Demonstrates a Cross-Platform Multi-Player Solution for OCAP With Sun Microsystems at NAB Show

Zodiac Gaming Demonstrates a Cross-Platform Multi-Player Solution for OCAP With Sun Microsystems at NAB Show

LAS VEGAS, April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Zodiac Gaming(TM), a Develop-On-Box company, has been selected by Sun Microsystems to demonstrate a next generation solution for interactive gaming during the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show in Las Vegas April 24th - April 27th.

Zodiac Gaming will use Sun's Java(TM) technology running on an OpenCable(TM) Application Platform (OCAP(TM)) set-top box and a mobile handset to allow NAB attendees to play games such as No Limit Texas Hold 'em with other attendees on a television, PC, or mobile phone.

Network operators are in a race to deploy advanced services for interactive television across multiple devices. While improvements in set-top integration, standards and technology are paving the way for new revenue sources, there are currently few solutions that can unlock the power of interactivity that spans multiple devices, platforms and people from a single interface and backend. Zodiac Gaming, utilizing Sun's Java technology, is paving the way for such integration.

"Tremendous revenue opportunities exist in driving interactivity between the 60 million digital set-top boxes, 175 million personal computers and 210 million mobile phones in the U.S. Java technology provides the ideal platform on which to achieve this convergence. We are thrilled to be a part of Sun Microsystems' demonstration," said Michael Rivkin, CEO, Develop-On-Box, parent company of Zodiac Gaming.

"We are extremely excited to have Zodiac Gaming at our booth at this year's NAB conference and together we will show how advanced interactive services can be deployed on multiple platforms," said Bill Sheppard, Sun Microsystems Senior Industry Marketing Manager for Digital Television. "Zodiac's success within the cable industry clearly demonstrates enthusiasm for its solution and validates the value of Java technology."

Currently deployed as part of Cablevision's Emmy(TM) award winning iO, Interactive Optimum digital television service, Zodiac Gaming will be running in the Sun Microsystems booth #SL3809 during the NAB show. Representatives will be available to discuss how the technology can be instantly deployed in both advanced and legacy set-top environments.
