Court TV(R) Extra To Offer Live Coverage Of Wal-Mart Trial From Columbia, South Carolina

Court TV Extra is the Network's Broadband Service Offering Multiple Streaming Trial Coverage

NEW YORK, April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Court TV Extra -- the online service that brings subscribers multiple live video feeds from courtrooms across the country -- will stream the Hollins v. Randall and Wal-Mart Stores Inc., case from the Richland County Superior Court in Columbia, SC. The trial is expected to begin Monday, April 24, and can be seen on Court TV's website at www.courttv.com/extra.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is being sued for "gross negligence," for hiring a registered sex offender, Bobby Devon Randall, without performing a background check. In 2000, Randall molested a 10-year-old girl in a Columbia Wal-Mart store. He pleaded guilty to committing a lewd act on a minor and later died in prison. Randall never told Wal-Mart about his three previous indecent exposure convictions. There is no law requiring retailers to perform background checks on employees. However, two Wal-Mart employees have reportedly submitted affidavits claiming that they told managers they suspected Randall was a pedophile. Now Maria Hollins, the mother of the 10-year-old girl, is suing Wal-Mart for their allegedly lax hiring practices.

Court TV Extra provides continuous, multiplexed trial coverage using streaming video. The service brings subscribers live video feeds from courtrooms nationwide directly to their PCs. Users can choose which live feed to watch at any time, without interruption for commercials or commentary. The site also includes trial highlights, the latest legal news, and special reports that support Court TV's award-winning Web site, Courttv.com. Court TV Extra costs $5.95 per month, and is available to new users for a free 30-day trial.

Court TV News will tape the trial to air at a later date on the network.
