Visual Entertainment to Re-Promote Controversial 'A Day Without A Mexican'
Film has Become a Touchstone in the Debate Over Illegal Immigration
Director Sergio Arau and Actress-Writer Yareli Arizmendi Available for Interviews
Now Available on DVD
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- One day California wakes up and not a single Latino is left in the state. They have all inexplicably disappeared and comedy and chaos quickly ensue. This is the story of "A Day Without a Mexican," the controversial 2004 film now available on DVD in Spanish and English from Visual Entertainment. This hilarious and heartwarming satire has made an indelible mark on our popular culture and become a touchstone in the current debate over proposed legislation dealing with the issue of illegal immigration. So much so, that the expected May 1 walk-out by Latino workers across America has been dubbed "A day without a Latino."
"This is a great example of life imitating art and art imitating life," said Tom O'Malley, general manager of Visual Entertainment. "The issues raised by 'A Day Without a Mexican' are based in the reality we now live with every day, particularly in Southern California. Regardless of where you side on the issue of illegal immigration, you can't deny the tremendous impact this group of people has had economically and culturally on our society, which is the point of the film."
Directed by Sergio Arau and written by Arau and Yareli Arizmendi, both of whom are available for press interviews, "A Day Without a Mexican" stars Caroline Aaron, Tony Abatemarco, Melinda Allen, Frankie J. Allison, Fernando Arau and Yareli Arizmendi.
