Don't Tell Me, I Don't Want to Know: Yale School of Management Study Finds People Actively Avoid Medical Diagnoses for Illnesses Perceived as Severe, Untreatable
People are often reluctant to obtain diagnostic medical tests for serious diseases they may be at risk for including cancer, H-I-V/AIDS, and Alzheimer's. A new study finds that the perceived treatability and severity of a disease impacts individuals' decisions to submit to -- or avoid -- medical screening. According to the research, people tend to seek diagnostic information for conditions they believe to be severe but treatable, and to avoid testing for conditions they believe to be severe and untreatable. The study was conducted by researchers from Yale, Williams College, and Cornell University.

Nationwide Harris Survey Reveals Menopause Poses Challenge for Female Executives
Results from the second annual "Menopause at Work" survey conducted by Harris Interactive among members of the National Association for Female Executives, found that eighty percent of respondents age thirty-five and above who currently experience menopausal symptoms or have in the past said that one or more of their symptoms, such as hot flashes, night sweats and insomnia were problematic in their daily lives.

Older Workers Underappreciated in Workplace

Parents Want Colleges to Encourage Legal Downloading by Students, According to New Survey by College Parents of America
A survey just conducted by College Parents of America in partnership with Ruckus Networks, reveals that parents of college students are concerned over the risks their children face for illegally downloading music, movies and videos from the Internet, and believe their children's schools have some level of responsibility for encouraging legal alternatives. The survey, conducted among more than six hundred and fifty parents of current or soon-to-be college students, shows that nearly all parents -- ninety-eight percent -- are aware that their children use their computers for entertainment purposes -- from listening to music, watching movies or videos and playing games to socializing and accessing news and information.
