Pennsylvania Military Museum Orientation Video Wins Prestigious Awards

BOALSBURG, Pa., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- A video created to help visitors learn more about the exhibits that await them in the Pennsylvania Military Museum has won two awards.

"Answering the Call: Pennsylvanians in Service to the Nation," recently picked up a 27th Annual Telly Award, which honors outstanding video and film productions, and a National Association of Government Communicators award for exceptional government communications projects.

"This production provides visitors with a high-quality introduction to the themes and collections of the Pennsylvania Military Museum and is an important feature of the newly renovated building," said Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission Executive Director Barbara Franco.

The 12-minute program was written and produced by Commonwealth Media Services, a division of the PA Department of General Services. The Pennsylvania Military Museum's staff provided technical expertise.

The video condenses 250 years of commonwealth history and highlights the contributions of the state in the defense of the nation. Images for the video came from the collections of the Pennsylvania State Archives, the new Military Museum exhibit The Tactics and Logistics of Warfare and private collections.

Newly discovered U. S. Army film footage from World War I documents an artillery battery of the Pennsylvania National Guard's 28th Infantry Division in France.

Commonwealth Media Services has produced 14 orientation videos for PHMC historic sites and museums and has been honored with 10 state and national awards for these projects.

The orientation video is shown on the hour between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. during regular museum hours. The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, which owns and operates the Pennsylvania Military Museum, is the official history agency of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
