AFI Conservatory Provides Guest Lecture Series to the University of New Orleans Film, Theatre and Communication Arts Students This Spring

LOS ANGELES, April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The University of New Orleans Department of Film, Theatre and Communication Arts (FTCA) is hosting a series of lectures by faculty members and fellows from the American Film Institute (AFI) this spring at the university's campus on Lake Ponchartrain. Each week features a new speaker from AFI who will address an aspect of filmmaking, such as cinematography, directing, editing, producing, production design and screenwriting. Additionally, and for the first time ever, DVDs of AFI's Harold Lloyd Master Seminar series will be for loaned to the FTCA faculty to use for instructional purposes. This collaboration was formed after AFI Fellows and Faculty held a Town Meeting on Campus in early September to discuss how they could make a tangible contribution to New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

"Filmmakers share a common bond," comments Robert Mandel, Dean of AFI Conservatory. "It's only natural that our Fellows would be grateful for the opportunity to help our fellow filmmakers at the University of New Orleans."

Guest speakers will conduct a workshop for FTCA undergraduate students on Monday nights. Throughout the day on Tuesday, FTCA graduate students will have the opportunity to discuss their projects with the speaker one-on-one or in small groups.

AFI has also provided DVDs of its Harold Lloyd Master Seminar series for FTCA faculty to use for instructional purposes. This is the first time these lectures have been loaned to anyone outside the American Film Institute. The Harold Lloyd Master Seminar series brings world-renowned filmmakers to AFI's Campus to share their work and experiences in an informal and accessible setting. Seminar guests include leading actors, cinematographers, directors, editors, producers, production designers and screenwriters who impart not only practical advice on making movies, but speak about their influences, early experiences and dedication to their craft.
