Duke May Not Be in the Final Four, but They Continue to be the Nation's Favorite College Basketball Team
This year, fans of the top five favorite college basketball teams are probably disappointed that their favorite will not be playing in the 2006 Final Four this weekend. For the fourth year in a row, Duke is the favorite college basketball team among those who follow college basketball. Their archrival, the University of North Carolina, comes in at number two, while last year's runners-up, the Fighting Illini of Illinois, drop down to third on the list. These are some of the results of a Harris Poll conducted online recently among a nationwide sample of twenty-four hundred U-S adults, seven hundred of whom follow college basketball.
Rounding out the top five favorite teams are the Buckeyes of Ohio State, and the Huskies of the University of Connecticut. The remaining teams on the top-10 list are Syracuse, Texas, U-C-L-A with Indiana and Villanova tied for ninth. In fact, only one school on the top ten list, U-C-L-A, will be playing this weekend for a chance to be National Champion.
