New Orleans Tourism Marketing Receives Silver World Medal in Annual New York Festivals Competition

NEW ORLEANS, March 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation (NOTMC) was recently recognized with a Silver World Medal in the New York Festivals' Film & Video Showcase during its 49th International Television, Cinema & Radio Advertising competition held on the stage of the Hudson Theater in Times Square, according to Sandra S. Shilstone, President and CEO.

The recognition was given for "Do They Play Jazz in Heaven," a three minute music video produced during the filming of NOTMC's 2005 advertising campaign, and used as a marketing tool of its own (http://www.neworleansonline.com/pr/releases.html ). The video is performed by Irvin Mayfield and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra led by local vocalist Ingrid Lucia. The video airs in local hotels on New Orleans TV. NOTMC also offers the tourism industry the use of the video for their own individual marketing efforts.

"We commissioned an original song as the score for our new ad campaign, and as Irvin and Ingrid were so magical together on camera performing it, we decided to go ahead and produce a full-length music video in addition to the TV commercials," said Sandra S. Shilstone, President and CEO of NOTMC. "We're thrilled with the final product, and we're very pleased to be able to make the video available to our tourism industry partners."

The lyrics to the song were written by Lori Archer, a copy writer at Peter A. Mayer Advertising Inc., NOTMC's agency of record, and the music was written by local composer and musician extraordinaire, David Torkanowsky. Local film producer Kenny Morrison of Morrison Productions filmed and edited the video, which features exclusively local New Orleans talent.

The entry was among 2,500 television and radio ads from 83 countries. The jury was composed of more than 100 creative directors representing 41 countries who chose the best in product as well as consumer advertising and public service advertising. The 49-year-old New York Festivals produces six annual international awards competitions, including Film & Video. Entries are judged both in the United States and overseas by peers.

The New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation promotes the city as a leisure tourism destination throughout the year through a broad program of advertising and public relations. It serves as the City's official leisure travel promotion agency, and its Board of Directors includes representatives from throughout the city's tourism industry.
