NABJ Seeks Entries for 2006 'Salute to Excellence' Awards, Recognizing Coverage of People and Issues Concerning Blacks Worldwide

WASHINGTON, March 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) has put out a "Call For Entries," seeking participation in its annual national media awards, 2006 NABJ Salute to Excellence Awards.

The competition recognizes exemplary coverage of people or issues in the African Diaspora and is open to all professional print, photo, television, radio and online journalists.

Work must be originally broadcast or published between January 1, 2005 and December 31, 2005. All entries must be postmarked by April 15, 2006.

"This past year was a strong one for news of concern to African Americans," said NABJ President Bryan Monroe, assistant vice president for news at Knight Ridder. "Between Katrina, Rosa and all the other stories, I'm expecting a record number of entries."

A committee of accomplished NABJ members nationwide will select the winning entries.

"Traditionally, entries represent every television market and print circulation," says Lauren Green, NABJ awards committee chair and investigative producer with WTTG-TV in Washington, D.C. "I'm looking forward to submissions from the growing online news industry as well as the amazing examples of photojournalism exhibited this year."

Finalists are selected in July, and winners will be announced at the Salute to Excellence Awards Gala, Saturday, October 14, 2006, at the prestigious Marriott Wardman Park Hotel, Washington, D.C. Finalists will receive complimentary admission to the awards gala, a premiere Washington event.

The entry fee per submission is $75.00 for members and $100.00 for non-members. Check, money order or credit card payment must accompany each entry. Log onto http://www.nabj.org/ to download a packet and fill out entry forms.
