Lighthouse Delivers the Passion of the Games via 28 State-of-the-art Screens
Erected Throughout the City
HONG KONG, March 24 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- With this year's biggest sporting spectacular underway, Lighthouse Technologies is utilizing its technological expertise to deliver vivid and impactful images of the 18th Commonwealth Games to audiences in Melbourne, as well as to millions of fans all over the world.
Between March 15 - 26, 2006, Lighthouse will be delivering all the action of the Commonwealth Games via 28 giant outdoor video screens that have been erected along the banks of the Yarra River and at key sites throughout the city.
Working in partnership with local system integrators Bytecraft Technology and Massteknik, screens have been installed at Commonwealth Games venues that include the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Rod Laver Arena, State Netball 7 Hockey Centre and Athletes Village. In addition, mobile displays are following the triathlon and marathon competitors as they wind their way around the streets of Melbourne.
According to Managing Director Mr. Mark Chan, giant Light Emitting Diode (LED) screens such as those designed and manufactured by Lighthouse have today become a vital component of the overall sporting experience from live video broadcast of all sports events, to capturing the highlights and moments of the Games via instant and repeated replays.
"Lighthouse screens create a more exciting and impactful environment by providing a focal point for the viewing of game statistics, time clocks and replays, that allow the audience to understand, follow and enjoy more of the action," says Mr. Chan.
Mr. Chan notes that the Lighthouse screens installed for this year's event were made especially to suit an outdoor environment and contain cutting-edge features to optimize the clarity of the images displayed on screen.
He continues, "The advantages for sport fans are that the screens instantaneously keep them updated on vital information such as scores, winners, records and times. This makes the Games a much more entertaining experience."
For the 2006 Commonwealth Games, Mr. Chan commented that through the company's partnership with Massteknik, a number of screens have been supplied for various broadcast networks. This includes the installation of a Lighthouse R6, 6mm screen as part of a custom-built set for the International Broadcast Centre.
Asked how he felt about the screen running 24 hours a day for the full 12- day duration of the Games, Mr. Ben Claydon, Director for Massteknik Asia Pacific stated. "Lighthouse panels are inherently very reliable and stable. Proper care and maintenance will undoubtedly keep it in tip-top performance show after show.
"We have had excellent results with Lighthouse screens when used in high profile events such as the Commonwealth Games. The R6 updates make a noticeable improvement to the final image, particularly in a television studio environment."
Through its partnership with Bytecraft, Lighthouse screens are also being utilized for: the opening and closing ceremonies with around 1000 intelligent luminaries; a massive river festival which features eleven kilometers of data cable in a river with thousands of amps of power and 600 intelligent luminaries; and as installations at games venues, live sites and river ceremonies across Victoria.
"As Australia's premier entertainment technology company, Bytecraft is proud to be associated with the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games," comments Mr. Stephen Found, Founder and Managing Director of Bytecraft.
He continues, "As an official games provider, Bytecraft is responsible for providing LED video screens, entertainment lighting and field of play lighting services to the various Games stadiums and public event spaces during the 12 day event.
