Lifetime Entertainment Services Launches Groundbreaking Digital Asset Management System From Venaca
Enables Digital Media Convergence System to Support Network's Multi-Platform Strategy
NEW YORK, March 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Venaca, Inc., a leading provider of Digital Asset Management (DAM) systems, announced today that Lifetime Entertainment Services has deployed Venaca's premier Digital Asset Management system as the foundation for the network's multi-platform digital strategy, said Tom Burchill, Venaca's Chief Executive Officer.
The announcement coincides with the opening of Lifetime's new state-of- the-art Technical Operations Center in lower Manhattan employing groundbreaking digital media systems, merging broadcast and IT technologies, and creating a virtually tapeless "delivery to air" workflow for all Lifetime networks.
The Center uses Venaca's platform to ingest, QC, transcode, store, search, retrieve, edit, annotate and repurpose broadcast media and other digital assets. In addition, seamless integration to Harris' broadcast automation system enables efficient and accurate transfer of media and metadata to this system for on-air playout.
"We are delighted to be a part of this truly historic project," said Mr. Burchill. "Lifetime's decision to choose Venaca clearly reinforces our leadership in this expanding technology segment. I would like to recognize George Grippo, Peter Horoszowski and the entire Venaca team, whose hard work and dedication resulted in the success of this project."
"As one of our key technology partners, Venaca was instrumental in creating an infrastructure that will provide a foundation for Lifetime's multi-platform vision of the future," said Gwynne McConkey, Senior Vice President, Operations, Information Systems & Technology, Lifetime Entertainment Services.
Venaca's DAM system is fully compatible with Avid's latest HD/SD non- linear editing solution, and is an early adopter of Avid's Unity ISIS storage product, a unique blade-based storage system that uses "distributed intelligence" architecture. Venaca is using Avid's Workgroup APIs to build integrated media, data, and command exchanges with Unity ISIS.
In the last decade, media asset management systems were intended to help networks make the transition away from tape. Today, they have taken on a whole new meaning and significance as companies reposition themselves to distribute their content to new and emerging digital platforms.
DAM is a combination of technologies and procedures that allow the efficient storage, retrieval, and reuse of digital media that are important to an organization. By implementing a DAM strategy, organizations are able to maximize the inherent value of their media assets, streamline their processes and gain a sustainable competitive advantage.
