KIDS GET MOVIN' - Get Your Child Healthy at Home Using New DVD from Center for Movement Education and Research
LOS ANGELES, March 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Research has established that movement is the architect of the brain, and yet our society is less active and 40 percent of children are more overweight than 10 years ago. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) National Center for Health Statistics, "One of the national health objectives for 2010 is to reduce the prevalence of overweight ... overweight in youths has not leveled off or decreased, and is increasing to even higher levels."
The Center for Movement Education and Research (CMER) has just released KIDS GET MOVIN', a 45-minute exercise DVD that has two fun and easy-to-use routines: 20 minutes of Hip Hop cardio/aerobics and 20 minutes of Kids' Yoga. Instructions are in English and Spanish.
The DVD was created by UCLA dance educator and dance kinesiologist Judy Gantz, the former Fitness Editor of Shape Magazine, founder of CMER and mother of two. Former Everybody Loves Raymond Director and Technical Coordinator Ken Shapiro and CDK Productions produced this professional DVD as a labor of love. This project is in the forefront of helping youth become healthy at home. Adults have been using exercise videos for years, and now it is time to have our kids exercise at home. Parents are so busy working and driving their kids everywhere that using an exercise program at home, on a DVD, saves time and money.
"I have taught movement for over 25 years, and I have two children. I see how much less active my kids are than I was when I was young, and I am really concerned for their health," said Gantz, who made this DVD with the support of many people in LA after her husband died. She created the Center for Movement Education and Research to support kids in the public schools because of the decline of movement arts and PE programs in the elementary schools.
"This DVD provides a perfect combo of fun, fitness and learning for children of diverse backgrounds ages 6 - 13," stated Martha Eddy, Ed.D., CMA, RSMT dance educator, exercise physiologist, educational consultant, Registered Somatic Movement Therapist, as well as the Director of the Center for Kinesthetic Education In New York City.
CMER is a non-profit organization and will use the sale proceeds from KIDS GET MOVIN' to place movement teachers in the public schools. The mission of CMER is to improve the lives of children by using movement in dynamic and cutting-edge applications to foster health, creativity, and education.
Children have less opportunity to move during school hours because of the elimination of PE and arts programs from elementary schools; with CMER's DVD, KIDS GET MOVIN' at home.
