blinkx Named Most Innovative Digital Business at Revolution Awards 2006
SAN FRANCISCO, March 22 /PRNewswire/ -- blinkx, the smartest thing on your computer and on the Web, was named the "Most Innovative Digital Business" at the prestigious Revolution Awards 2006, held in London earlier this month. Beating off competition from Experian, Emap, and Shop Scan Save, www.blinkx.tv -- the only search engine that is optimised for searching rich media content -- was praised by Revolution Magazine for "its underlying technology and innovative approach, [which] helped it stand out from the crowd." The judges also commended blinkx for beating its bigger rivals' video offerings to market by months and exploiting its first mover advantage with the launch of the first ever podcast search facility in 2005.
Revolution is the leading digital media magazine in Europe and was one of the first trade titles to cover the internet. Launched in 1997, the Revolution Awards have become the premier annual event for anyone involved in the digital business world. Recognising those companies and individuals who have achieved excellence in their use of digital channels for business and marketing, the awards celebrate innovative new ways of doing business and marketing within the digital industry.
Short listed companies in the "Most Innovative Digital Business" category were judged on how well they had used the unique capabilities of the internet and other digital platforms to create an innovative product or service, not possible using other business channels. The judges, including Gillian Kent, head of MSN UK, Pippa Dunn of Orange, and Guy Phillipson of the IAB, also looked for evidence of commercial success.
There were more than 500 entries to the awards this year. Other category winners included Nike, Channel 4, Carling, Cisco, Experian, and 20th Century Fox.
"Innovation is at the core of blinkx.tv. Our cutting-edge technology and unique approach to video search has allowed blinkx to stand out from the crowd and consistently lead the pack," said Suranga Chandratillake, CTO and founder of blinkx. "We are delighted to have won the Revolution Award for Most Innovative Digital Business -- to be recognised as a truly innovative company among a host of established and respected big brand names in the digital industry is a fantastic achievement and testament to the quality of the blinkx.tv technology and service."
