Award-winning Journalist Sues Filmmakers for Copyright Infringement, Misappropriation and Unjust Enrichment

Award-winning Journalist Sues Filmmakers for Copyright Infringement, Misappropriation and Unjust Enrichment

NEWARK, N.J., March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Robert Rudolph, an award-winning journalist who spent more than thirty-five years at The Star Ledger of Newark, New Jersey's largest newspaper, today filed suit in New Jersey federal district court against the makers of the film, "Find Me Guilty," alleging that it is an unauthorized adaptation of his 1992 book, "The Boys From New Jersey: How the Mob Beat the Feds." The book is Rudolph's first-hand account of a 1980's racketeering trial in federal court here that spanned more than twenty months and resulted in the acquittal of all defendants - more than twenty alleged members of the Lucchese crime family - on all counts. Both book and film focus principally on the courtroom antics of defendant Jackie Di Norscio, who represented himself at the trial and successfully converted the proceedings into a farce. Named in the suit, which alleges copyright infringement, misappropriation and unjust enrichment, are the film's noted Executive Producer, Robert Yari, its legendary Director, Sidney Lumet, screenwriters Robert McCrea and T.J. Mancini, and others. Rudolph charges the defendants with "blatant and wholesale theft" of a book that he "extensively researched, independently wrote, properly copyrighted and published to widespread acclaim." The book remains in print some fourteen years after its original publication. The film opened on March 17th to excellent reviews but weak box office sales.
