The Weather Channel Wedding Planner Confronts Wedding Day Fears
The Weather Channel Wedding Planner Confronts Wedding Day Fears
New Survey Reveals What Gives Engaged Couples Cold Feet
ATLANTA, Feb. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Did you know that besides bad weather, the biggest wedding day fear is a runaway bride or groom? In a recent survey commissioned to mark the launch of the Wedding Planner by The Weather Channel, almost half of the individuals polled fear a runaway bride or groom. Maybe not so surprising is that only four percent fear wedding crashers. Other fears included running out of food and drinks and guests and relatives that don't get along.
While there's no controlling a runaway bride or groom, engaged couples can get a handle on their wedding day weather using the Wedding Planner by The Weather Channel. Located at http://www.weather.com/weddings, this interactive planning tool provides comprehensive weather information and other useful resources, all aimed at easing the stress of the wedding planning experience.
Understanding the weather has become increasingly important to engaged couples in light of the fact that four of the most popular months for weddings fall within hurricane season, according to the National Association of Wedding Ministers. That's important to note not just for outdoor weddings, but when considering travel by families and friends and planning the honeymoon.
With the Wedding Planner, future brides and grooms can create a customized wedding page that allows them to analyze historical weather data as well as receive personalized forecasts to help plan various aspects of their wedding, including setting the date, determining when the sun will set and finding the perfect wedding and honeymoon locations. The Wedding Planner also includes feature content from The Knot, the #1 wedding Web site.
"We get feedback all the time from weather.com users and one of the things people asked us for was something that just did not exist online -- an interactive event planning tool that provides historical weather data," said Tom Flournoy, vice president of product management for The Weather Channel Interactive. "The Wedding Planner fills a void and provides a comprehensive resource so engaged couples can make the best possible decisions regarding their wedding date and location and honeymoon plans."
To promote the launch of the Wedding Planner, The Weather Channel is celebrating Wedding Week on weather.com. The celebration includes The Weather Channel "Ultimate Wedding" Sweepstakes, a chance for a couple to register to win $5000 toward their wedding. In addition, weather.com will also "unveil" one of the great wedding planning events with an inside look at the famous "Running of The Brides" at Filene's Basement in Boston. Visitors to the site will enjoy exclusive "bride-cam" footage as we outfit a bride-to-be with a helmet-mounted video camera as she makes the run through Filene's Basement searching for her perfect gown. The run will take place on February 17th and video will be posted later that day. In the meantime, visit http://www.weather.com/weddings for a preview of our bride's shopping strategies and more Wedding Week activity.
The Wedding Planner features four helpful sections: My Wedding Weather, Set the Date, Planning Tools and Tips and the Honeymoon & Destination Wedding Planner.
-- The My Wedding Weather section allows brides and grooms to create a
customized page and receive personalized forecasts for their wedding
location leading up to their wedding day and other wedding-related
events. This unique section also introduces historical weather data to
weather.com for the first time. Couples can see what the weather was
actually like the past three years on the day of their wedding to get
some idea of what they can expect on their big day and plan
accordingly.
-- The Set the Date section of the Wedding Planner helps brides and
grooms determine where and when they should get married based on
typical weather conditions, including average monthly and daily
temperatures for the location.
-- Planning Tools and Tips includes a sunset calculator, flower finder
from the California Cut Flower Commission, and a dynamic wedding
checklist and beauty tips, both from the wedding experts at The Knot.
-- The Honeymoon & Destination Wedding Planner helps couples decide on a
perfect honeymoon or wedding location for more than 100 destinations
worldwide based on average weather conditions. It also offers helpful
tips on the best times to go and what to pack.
The Wedding Planner survey, conducted by the Kelton Research, polled over 1100 men and women ages 18 and up. Of those polled, 39 percent feared a runaway bride or groom and 30 percent feared that guests/relatives won't get along at the wedding. Only 23 percent feared running out of food and drinks. Less than 10 percent feared having a blemish or their wedding being crashed by uninvited guests.
