Proyecto 40 Presents a Pluralistic Television Alternative

- Programming Will Contribute to the Consolidation of a More Open and Better-Informed Mexico

- Analysis and Debate with Mexico's Top Intellectuals

MEXICO CITY, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- TV Azteca, S.A. de C.V. (BMV: TVAZTCA) (Latibex: XTZA), one of the two largest producers of Spanish- language television content in the world, announced today that it began operations of Proyecto 40 -- an over-the-air UHF channel that covers the Mexico City metropolitan area -- with content that contributes to the consolidation of a more open and pluralistic society.

Proyecto 40 presents a programming grid with news, opinion, research and debate. The project brings together noted cultural, social, economic and political opinion leaders from Mexico and expects to expand in areas that are of interest to the Mexican society.

Primetime programming includes Informativo 40, a weekday news program at 10:00 pm, anchored by Luis Nino de Rivera, renowned opinion leader, who is joined by experienced journalist Pilar Alvarez Lazzo. Participating also in the newscast will be Luis Rubio, an internationally recognized political and economic analyst; Leo Zuckermann, a prestigious editorialist and intellectual; Alberto Barranco, an outstanding business and finance specialist; and Carlos Mota, noted financial columnist.

"I have brought together noted public opinion leaders and will continue to expand our team. Serious analysis of the problems that Mexico faces is fundamental for reaching viable solutions for all Mexicans. Together we can build a better Mexico," said Mr. Nino de Rivera.

Opinion and analysis programs will follow the newscast. Mondays will be dedicated to developing financial topics and economic events in the program Poder Financiero, hosted by well-known columnists Dario Celis and David Paramo.

Tuesday will include the program Platica de Amigos, with the insightful commentary of Carlos Alazraki, a top political and business marketing strategist.

Wednesdays will feature Entre lo Publico y lo Privado, a successful program where political and cultural leaders will show their human side. The program is hosted by Andres Roemer, Ph.D. in Public Policy and respected author of numerous books on social issues.

Thursdays will be dedicated to Elecciones 2006, hosted by Raymundo Rivapalacio and Jorge Zepeda Patterson, noted political analysts with vision and unique insight. The program offers a forum for analysis and reflection about what is at stake in the electoral process.

On Fridays, we present Opinion Publica, with Francisco Abundis, a noted authority on polling, analysis and forecasts in the area of social issues, politics and economics.

Saturdays at 8:30 pm, Angel Dehesa hosts La Noche es Joven, dedicated to cultural issues in a both intelligent and developed manner that is at the same time relaxed and interesting. Mr. Dehesa is a young talented host, with a long history in theater and entertainment programs with a political focus.

Sundays at 9:00 pm, Jorge Fernandez Menendez, a journalist known for his insight and bravery, hosts an investigative journalism program. The program is followed by a Sunday edition of Informativo 40, anchored by Gustavo Renteria, a rising star in television journalism.

The programming lineup also includes science documentaries presented by prestigious universities in Mexico, as well as educational segments featuring history, music and cinema, among others.

TV Azteca has the right to program, operate and sell advertising of the Canal 40 concession in Mexico City based on the contracts signed with the television station in 1998, as previously detailed. The agreements were approved by the Communications and Transportation Ministry (SCT) and declared legally valid and obligatory without appeal by the courts. This has been previously informed to the corresponding authorities.

"The agreements translate into a programming project that allows audiences to know their country better, its problems and opportunities, to be able to make responsible, better-informed economic and political decisions," said Hernan Cabalceta, Sole Administrator of Televisora del Valle de Mexico.
