Post-News Season To Share Raises Record $1,237,000

DENVER, Feb. 27 /PRNewswire/ Post-News Season To Share, a fund of the McCormick Tribune Foundation, raised $1,237,000 during the 2005-2006 campaign, breaking all previous fundraising records for this campaign.

The $1,237,000 raised from 6,439 donors will be matched with $500,000 from the McCormick Tribune Foundation. Grants totaling more than $1,737,000 will be announced and distributed in April, with a complete disbursement report running in The Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News.

For 13 years, Post-News Season To Share has raised charitable donations that are matched and disbursed to local nonprofit agencies serving disadvantaged children as well as people who are homeless, hungry or need of medical care. This year's campaign ran from Nov. 12, 2005, through Jan. 31, 2006. Funds were raised through reader, community and corporate donations. Each dollar donated (up to the first $1,000,000 raised) is matched with 50 cents by the McCormick Tribune Foundation. The Denver Newspaper Agency and the McCormick Tribune Foundation pay all administrative costs, allowing 100 percent of donations to go directly to charitable organizations.

"It is truly thanks to our community that Season To Share has had another record-breaking year of fundraising," said Kirk MacDonald, president and CEO of the Denver Newspaper Agency. "Our readers and supporters have once again demonstrated their tremendous generosity. We are proud to continue raising these funds and providing meaningful financial support to the outstanding nonprofit organizations that serve the most needy in our community."

Since its beginning in 1993, Season To Share has distributed more than $16,000,000 in grants to agencies including Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, the Broadway Assistance Center, Capitol Hill Community Services, Clinica Tepeyac, COMPA Food Ministries, Dental Aid, Emergency Family Assistance Association, Project Angel Heart and many more. In the previous campaign (2004-2005), donations came in at $1,150,000, and with the addition of the match of 50 cents for each dollar, $1,650,000 was granted to 63 agencies.
