A Planet's Best Dog-Friendly Destination Found in Chicago

A Planet's Best Dog-Friendly Destination Found in Chicago

CHICAGO, Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The year 2005 turned out to be a great year for the dogs of Chicago. Both Dog Fancy magazine and http://www.dogfriendly.com/ independently named Chicago as the "Dog-Friendliest City" in the United States. The new year brings yet another distinction to lucky dogs in the Chicagoland area ... and this one is of planetary proportions! On February 10, 2006, 9:00 pm CST, the Animal Planet Network will debut Planet's Best: Dog-Friendly Destinations, which will feature Camp Dogwood. The Chicago-based dog camp sits proud to be dubbed one of Animal Planet's best places for people and their dogs to spend time together.

Camp Dogwood, founded in 2001 by Dave Eisendrath and Alysa Slay, created an overnight dog camp experience for adults with dogs, reminiscent of summer sleep-away camp. The Dogwood motto describes camp as a place "Where your dog can be a dog!" The grounds are almost 200 acres of woods, open fields, and wetlands all situated on the private shores of Wooster Lake, in northern Illinois. Bunking together in lodges, cabins and tents, people and their pooches will spend the entire camp weekend bonding, playing and learning more about each other than they ever could at their local dog park. "I didn't know what to expect before I got [there], and the weekend was even better than I could ever have imagined," a recent first-timer noted. And while her dogs couldn't say so, she knew they felt the same way, too.

Camp Dogwood offers opportunities to participate in a wide-range of human and/or canine activities designed for beginning, as well as experienced, dogs and handlers. Schedules include: agility, flyball, Frisbee, trick training, behavior training, lure coursing, arts-n-crafts, photography, hiking, beach games & parties, canine health & nutrition discussions, scrapbooking, dog and human massage therapists, talent shows, a night time astronomy program ... and always much more.

"We've gotten rave reviews from campers since the very first camp, but we never anticipated getting this 'Planet's Best' distinction," says Slay, "so now we're very focused on making sure that all future sessions of Camp Dogwood remain worthy of this fantastic compliment."

This year the planet. Next year the universe!

Camp Dogwood 2006 includes Spring Camp May 26-29, Fun Match Day on September 9th, and Fall Camp October 6-9. For more information about this Camp Dogwood, please visit http://www.campdogwood.com/ or call (312) 458-9549.
