Connery, Fonda, Allen, Newman, Caine, Fields and Other Oscar(R) Greats are Featured on Classic Game Shows
Legendary Academy Award Show Hosts Johnny Carson and Bob Hope are Also Highlighted
SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- And the winner is ... GSN celebrates Oscar winners during a two-day classic game show salute that features appearances by award-winning actors and actresses who have won the film industry's top award.
The Oscar salute begins Saturday night, March 4 at 3 AM ET/PT with two classic game shows featuring legendary hosts of the Academy Awards, Johnny Carson and Bob Hope on PASSWORD and WHAT'S MY LINE.
On Sunday, March 5 starting at 9 AM ET/PT, the Oscar showcase continues for eight hours beginning with a 1965 black and white episode of WHAT'S MY LINE that features two Oscar winners as mystery guests (see answers in schedule below. Hint: One guest was a best actor winner for On Golden Pond and the other won the best supporting actor category for "The Untouchables.")
Two additional black and white episodes of WHAT'S MY LINE are next and feature a best director winner from 1977 and best actress winner from 1978. At 10 AM, another best actress winner from 1957 and a best actor from "The Color of Money" are the mystery guests on WHAT'S MY LINE.
At 10:30 AM moving from the black and white era to color with PASSWORD, the clue is the 1994 Best Supporting Actor from "Ed Wood." Joe Garagiola hosts HE SAID, SHE SAID at 11 AM that features a two-time Academy Award winner from 1979 in "Norma Rae" and 1994 for "Places in the Heart."
A classic WHAT'S MY LINE at 11:30 AM features a best supporting actor winner from "Cider House Rules" in 1999 who tries to fool the panelists by talking with a German accent. Gene Rayburn hosts a 1979 edition of MATCH GAME at noon which the best supporting actress from "West Side Story" helps a contestant win over $10,000.
The rest of the classic game shows on GSN feature best actor winners from "The French Connection," "Charly," "Rain Man" and "Kramer vs. Kramer." In addition, best supporting actors and actress from "Cabaret," "The Miracle Worker" and "Cool Hand Luke" are featured on WHAT'S MY LINE, PASSWORD PLUS and MATCH GAME.
Rounding out the line up are shows with Johnny Carson and Bob Hope late Sunday night.
