You Won't Want to Miss ... This Powerful One-Hour NBC 10 News Special Report 'Murder in Philadelphia: What's the Answer?' Monday, January 23rd at 7PM

BALA CYNWYD, Pa., Jan. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Murder in Philadelphia: What's the Answer? ... This eye-opening NBC 10 News Special Report will air Monday, January 23rd, from 7-8 PM. The numbers paint a grim picture of a city in crisis. According to Philadelphia Police records, 380 murders occurred in 2005, up from 330 in 2004. Due to these alarming statistics, the NBC 10 News Team takes an in-depth look at the outrageously high number of murders committed and what it will take to turn around this very serious problem.

"Murder in Philadelphia: What's the Answer?" includes interviews with police officers who patrol the city's 'hot zones' (areas most threatened by murder crimes). Philadelphia Police Commissioner Sylvester Johnson will address how the hundreds of murders committed with handguns last year forced the city into a crisis mode. A local family shares their feelings about the sudden and violent death of a loved one. NBC 10 Investigative Reporter Harry Hairston travels to Chicago, a city known for its extremely high murder toll. In his live report, Hairston interviews city officials about strategies used to decrease the number of murders in the 'Windy City.'

Starting at 3:45 PM and throughout the hour-long special, viewers will have an opportunity to call the toll-free NBC 10 Phone Bank (1-877-NBC-WCAU). Representatives from Philadelphia's community, civic and law enforcement organizations will be on hand not only to respond to viewer inquiries about Philadelphia's murder crisis, but also to help them become a part of the solution, instead of a part of the problem.

"Our goal is to look beyond the shocking numbers and look for answers to a problem that affects all of us in some way. It doesn't stop with this special. We intend to keep focusing on this issue and the people who are working every day to make a difference," says NBC 10 News Vice President Chris Blackman.
