Tribune Interactive Chooses WorldNow for Streaming Video Technology
Leading Broadcast and Newspaper Sites Create Video Success Stories
NEW YORK, Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- WorldNow, the leading provider of Internet technology, revenue and content solutions for media companies, today announced an agreement with Tribune Interactive, a division of Tribune Company (NYSE:TRB), to provide streaming video products for all of Tribune's television and newspaper websites. Through this partnership, WorldNow will provide Tribune with industry-leading streaming video technology and related consulting and support services.
To date, several Tribune television station and newspaper Web sites have launched video content. These include WPIX-TV (wpix.com) in New York, New York Newsday (newsday.com), KTLA-TV (ktla.com) in Los Angeles, WGN-TV (wgntv.com) in Chicago, KCPQ-TV in Seattle (kcpq.com), and Orlando Sentinel (orlandosentinel.com). Additional sites are launching video content every month.
"The addition of the WorldNow system will enhance Tribune's ability to deliver streaming video to the millions of consumers that turn to us for unique local content," said Rick Felty, VP/Creative Services, Tribune Broadcasting. "For our advertisers, this system provides the kind of robust and flexible platform necessary for successful online sales and marketing."
"We're thrilled to support Tribune in its drive to continue its leadership across some of the nation's most important markets," said Gary Gannaway, President and CEO of WorldNow. "We're hard at work with Tribune businesses to develop informative and entertaining video content on their sites."
Tribune sites wasted little time in realizing success and setting streaming records by using WorldNow's system. Following the 2005 World Series, wgntv.com and chicagotribune.com streamed live coverage of the White Sox World Series parade and celebration, delivering more than 100,000 video streams in less than five hours. The average viewing time for each stream was a dramatic 22 minutes.
"This is a great opportunity to expand the reach of WGN-TV content beyond the broadcast," said Tom Ehlmann, VP/GM WGN-TV. "We will continue to offer our viewers the video content that they want, across media and on-demand."
In New York, wpixtv.com launched Commutercast, a live video webcast of traffic conditions and maps conducted online by a WPIX-TV reporter five times each weekday.
"Commutercast gives real-time traffic and transit news to people when they most need it, even if they don't have access to conventional TV," said WPIX-TV News Director Karen Scott.
WorldNow's streaming video product uses the most advanced Internet video technology, allowing users to see and hear clearer and crisper video clips. The product is the closest to television quality available on the Internet.
