Teens Petition Tara Reid to Make Her Old Homestead a Park

Teens Petition Tara Reid to Make Her Old Homestead a Park

WYCKOFF, N.J., Jan. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Two Wyckoff, New Jersey teenagers have written to actress and "Taradise" host Tara Reid asking her to stop a proposed housing development to be built on and around her family's homestead.

Reid's childhood home, still owned by her parents, is one of only two situated on the upper edge of a spectacular ravine near Grandview and Ravine Avenues in Wyckoff. It's a short walk from Coolidge Elementary School, which Reid attended as a child.

Norah and Clare Scanlan, a junior and a sophomore at local Ramapo High School, respectively, have petitioned Reid to purchase the wooded parcel so it would remain open space.

"We wrote to Tara in hopes that she would turn the ravine into a park," said Clare Scanlan. "The ravine is one of the most beautiful areas in all of Wyckoff."

Wyckoff, population 16,000, is in northwest Bergen County, New Jersey, about 30 miles from Manhattan. It is also the childhood home of American Idol semi-finalist Constantine Maroulis.

Four members of the Mason family, who have proposed the development, Reid's parents Thomas and Donna Reid, and Robert and Barbara Milanese own the 12-acre tract, much of which is steeply sloped land. Deep Voll Brook runs through the environmentally sensitive ravine, a portion of which is designated as wetlands. Planners estimate the eleven homes proposed for the site will require nearly three dozen variances.

The upper portion of the ravine was the site of a pre-Revolutionary mill built by the original settlers of the area.

The next hearing before the Township of Wyckoff Planning Board on the development is scheduled for January 11.
