WHAT: The 2006 National Anthem Project Road Show is in Miami to launch
its nationwide tour to re-teach Americans the historical
relevance and words of the National Anthem, while spotlighting
the importance of school music. The press conference will
include:
* A concert performance by hundreds of students from local
Miami schools
* Mayor Diaz declares "National Anthem Project Day" in Miami
* Dr. Rudy Crew, Superintendent of Miami Dade County schools
addresses the state of music programs in Miami schools
* Dr. John Mahlmann of the National Association for Music
Education talks about the project and outlines the need for
every child to have a proper music education
WHY: Two out of three Americans don't know the words to the national
anthem, according to a Harris Poll. The National Anthem Project
is an effort to re-teach Americans the lyrics to "The Star-
Spangled Banner." Led by the National Association for Music
Education (MENC), the world's largest arts education
association, the project's other supporters include Honorary
Chairperson Mrs. Laura Bush and National Presenting Sponsor the
Jeep(R) brand.
