Florida Venture Forum Announces Key Note Entertainment for 15th Annual Florida Venture Capital Conference

TAMPA, Fla., Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The Florida Venture Forum is pleased to announce its key note entertainment for the 15th annual Florida Venture Capital Conference set for January 31 - February 1, 2006 at the Sawgrass Marriott & Resort in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. The Capitol Steps will entertain an expected gathering of 1,100 conference attendees on Tuesday, January 31 during a gala dinner.

The Capitol Steps first came together in December 1981 at a Christmas party for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee when three members of Illinois Republican Senator Charles Percey's staff were assigned to provide entertainment. Troupe legend has it that they wanted to put on the traditional Nativity play, but "in the whole of Congress they could not find three wise men or a virgin," so instead they borrowed a giant fake check that had been created as a prop for a subcommittee debate and used it to illustrate a carol entitled "Immense Expense is Mainly in Defense." The rest is history -- spoofed in song.

Since their auspicious debut when Ronald Reagan was President, the Capitol Steps have played to packed houses across the nation -- more than 4,500 performances in 48 states. Their countless television appearances include Good Morning America, the Today Show, Nightline, 20/20 and three national specials for public television.

According to former President George Bush, "The Capitol Steps make it easier to leave public office." PJ O'Rourke has commented, "The Capitol Steps are what Washington would be if everyone were smarter and could sing."

The Capitol Steps show will be followed with a 15th Anniversary celebration sponsored by Square One Bank. The display will take place over the 18th green of the famed Stadium Course at the Tournament Players Club at Sawgrass.
