vMix and GroovPix Cast a Wide Net Looking for Video Submissions for New Feature Film Hip Hop Nation
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- vMix, an online community for the distribution of video content and GroovPix, an entertainment company committed to bringing compelling unusual content to DVD, has partnered with music fans, giving them an opportunity to express themselves and bring the hip hop lifestyle to life in a feature film, slated for release in 2006. Video from handheld devices will be compiled and brought to the big screen.
Hip Hop Nation will be the first feature documentary film to capture the hip-hop lifestyle as well as the music through unscripted footage shot by fans using their own portable video devices. The film will also feature current popular hip-hop artists performing some of their favorite songs live as well as exclusive concert footage. Aspiring hip-hop artists, rappers, dancers, DJs, MCs and fans will have a chance to upload their video onto the vMix website, www.vmix.com or through participating radio station websites in order for their chance to win the ultimate prize of having their video become part of the movie.
"This innovative, real and raw film making formula is taking the online amateur video content to the next level," states Scott Mahalick, Founder of GroovPix. "We wanted to capture the true essence of the hip-hop industry in making a film that is not necessarily scripted, but comes more from the heart of the artists and fans. And we chose vMix to make this happen due to their expertise and loyalty to music and technology for user-generated content."
"Due to our background with MP3.com we have been able to create a website that attracts users wanting to create and watch music generated videos," states Greg Kostello, CEO of vMix. "We have built an online community so that anyone with a camera can tell their story. We love the idea of supporting undiscovered talent and are excited that we can facilitate user's dreams and passions by providing the platform for video submissions for Hip Hop Nation."
vMix and GroovPix are confident that consumers will check out the entries generating an online 'underground' for hip-hop artistry where perspectives and voices can be shared across the U.S. Popular videos will automatically move up to the "Most Watched" list and vMix will flag the favorites and featured videos. Consumers are encouraged to enter their hip-hop videos in all categories from video diaries, out-takes, music, street dancing, MC battles, chillin' with friends and bloopers.
vMix is accepting entries until March 15, 2006. Hip Hop Nation is slated for production later in 2006 and due to be released in early 2007.
