What's a Photo If You Can't Share It?: Simple Star Helps Unleash Holiday Memories
What's a Photo If You Can't Share It?: Simple Star Helps Unleash Holiday Memories
SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Consumers will receive digital cameras in record numbers this holiday season, yet after the boxes are opened and some pictures snapped, millions will ask, "now what?!"
"People want to organize their photos to tell a story and create long- lasting memories," Chad Richard, chief executive officer of Simple Star, notes. "Many software developers forget that."
Mr. Richard says too many photo management solutions are overly complex, hard to use and make people handle photos differently than they have before, when all they want is a product that:
-- Is simple to install and easy-to-use
-- Includes a complete set of features for organizing, managing, printing,
archiving and sharing
-- Enable people to handle photos like they always have, such as creating
photo albums and printing to retail locations, such as drug stores
"It's all about helping people be comfortable with how they enjoy their memories," notes Mr. Richard.
Among the features to look for in photo management software are:
-- Organizing -- Software should automatically upload photos from the
camera's card or hard drive and give people options about where to
store them.
-- Managing -- People should be able to label photos by person, date,
location and as a "favorite." Some software tools, such as Simple
Star's PhotoShow, will automatically label a photo as a favorite if
users view and print it frequently.
-- Creating -- People want to express themselves when creating digital
photo albums and the software should help them do this. For example,
PhotoShow lets people create entertaining, movie-like shows that
include photos, video clips, music, titles, transitions, animated clip
art and several other features.
-- Printing -- People want several printing options. Software should
allow users to print to retail electronically, such as to drugstores
and convenience stores, as well as print at home and through mail order
-- Sharing -- Solutions should give people many different ways to share in
addition to printing, such as emailing and online hosting.
This holiday season, it's predicted the three most popular consumer electronics products will be digital cameras, flat screen TVs and DVD players. Ideally, photo management solutions will help people enjoy all three, by, for example, letting people burn photos onto DVD so they can view their photos and digital albums on the TVs in the comfort of their living rooms.
