blinkx Partners With Diesel, visit4info, The Advertising Producers Association, and The Central Office of Information to Connect Consumers With Thousands of Their Favorite Television Commercials

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- blinkx, the smartest thing on your computer and on the Web, today announced content agreements with Diesel, visit4info, the Advertising Producers Association (APA), and the Central Office of Information (COI) to the UK government to index their large archives of TV commercials and make them searchable through the blinkx.tv website. Consumers will be able to search through more than 5,000 commercials that have become popular cultural references in the UK and mainland Europe for the past 60 years.

These agreements will allow blinkx users worldwide to search and find their favorite ads, which include commercials raging from funny and sexy to cult and weird, such as government educational cartoon ads from the mid-1940s and high-art inspired clothing commercials from 1945 to the present day.

By using voice recognition technology to transcribe the content of audio and video ads, blinkx.tv allows users to find the ads they are looking for even if the metadata and other manually generated "tags" are incomplete. In addition, blinkx's conceptual search technology allows users to search for concepts they remember from ads, jumping directly to the commercials they're looking for.

"blinkx's technology is the only technology that can automatically transcribe and index over 20 years of our commercials, bringing them to Diesel fans over the world and we're excited to be partnering with them," said Chris Mair, interactive marketing manager of Diesel.

"As demand for commercials has increased in the past few years, visit4info is happy to be making our vast range of TV commercials available through blinkx," said James Grigg of visit4info.

"From the day we launched, our search logs have demonstrated user demand for popular ads and cult commercial content," said Suranga Chandratillake, founder and CTO of blinkx. "We wanted to offer our users more access to great commercials that have become symbols of our culture and defined certain eras. We believe these partnerships will bring great memories (and laughs) back to our users. So, we're extremely excited to be offering TV commercials from Diesel, visit4info, the APA, and the national archive of the COI in the UK online at www.blinkx.tv."

In less than a year, blinkx has become a popular destination for Internet users who want to watch or listen to comedy, sports, educational lectures and speeches, celebrity and general news, and now popular ads. The size of the blinkx.tv rich media index has exploded to more than 110 years worth of indexed TV content and more than one million hours of TV clips.

It has become the world's most popular consumer site for viewing TV, press and cinema ads (Source www.alexa.com).

visit4info also provides a valuable resource for advertisers and agencies, it is fast to view, easy to search and increasingly comprehensive in its coverage.
