According to the Consumer Electronics Association, the Best of Innovations Awards are given to the most highly honored products in all facets of the consumer technology industry. Since 1989, the prestigious Innovations Design and Engineering Awards have given consumer technology manufacturers and developers an opportunity to have their newest products judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, independent engineers and members of the trade press.
The panel of judges evaluates products based on these weighted criteria:
- User value
- Aesthetics
- Contributions to the quality of life
- Innovative design and qualities
The new MCP-100 DVR with DVD will support the majority of writeable DVD recording formats for standard and high definition content that will give consumers the ability to simply and securely record their favorite shows and movies onto "writeable" DVDs. The MCP-100 DVR with DVD will also play off-the- shelf DVDs and CDs. In addition, the product is being designed to respect key content protection flags including 'copy freely', 'copy once', and 'copy never' tags.
Scientific-Atlanta's DPC2223 voice modem with DECT functionality will help enable consumers to expand the use of cordless phone sets in the home to include accessing Voice over IP (VoIP) telephony services. VoIP service, growing in popularity around the world, is often bundled with video and high- speed data to deliver a triple-play of services at an attractive bundled price for consumers.
The new MCP-100 DVR with DVD is currently being tested in MSO labs and could enter beta testing soon. The DPC2223 voice modem with DECT functionality may become commercially available in the first half of calendar year 2006.
