A New Anchor for KARE 11 News

MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- KARE 11 has announced the hiring of a new co-anchor for the news programs at 5, 6 and 10 p.m. He is Mike Pomeranz, currently an anchor at WCBS in New York City.

"We have a tradition of presenting the top anchors in the country to KARE viewers," said KARE 11 president and general manager John Remes. "With Mike, we are keeping that tradition alive."

Pomeranz anchors the weekend news at WCBS. Previously, he worked at WFLD in Chicago, WATE in Knoxville and KRDO in Colorado Springs. He is a graduate of the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University.

Pomeranz also played minor league baseball including a stint in the Minnesota Twins farm system.

"Michael fits KARE's style perfectly," said KARE vice president news director Tom Lindner. "He helps make every story clear with a straightforward style and a comfortable, natural presence."

Pomeranz' wife, Laura, is a Bloomington, Minnesota native. They have two children and the family spends summer vacations at a family cabin near Brainerd.

"My wife says Minnesota is the best place in the country to raise kids," said Pomeranz. "And people in my business say that KARE 11 is the best place in the country to work," he continued. "This move is a personal and a professional dream come true."

Pomeranz is scheduled to debut on KARE on January 2nd.
