BMI Honours Top European Songwriters and Publishers at Annual London Awards

- Steve Winwood Crowned BMI Icon
American performing right organisation Broadcast Music Inc. salutes the
top European songwriters at its 2005 London Awards. The gala invitation-only
event dinner and awards ceremony, which honours the most performed songs on
US radio and television, will take place in the Ballroom of London's
Dorchester Hotel on Tuesday November 29th. Guests will begin arriving at 7pm.
Steve Winwood, who will be honoured for his "enduring influence
on generations of music makers," joins a distinguished list of BMI Icons that
includes Van Morrison, Paul Simon, Brian Wilson, Carlos Santana, James Brown
and Dolly Parton, among others.
With a career that spans more than 40 years, the Grammy
Award-winning singer has sealed his place in history both as a solo artist
and as a member of such celebrated bands as the Spencer Davis Group, Traffic
and Blind Faith. He scored his first US hit while still a teen with the
Spencer Davis Group classic "Gimme Some Lovin'," and co-wrote all of
Traffic's biggest songs, including "The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys," "Dear
Mr. Fantasy" and "Pearly Queen."
Jack Bruce - legendary bassist and vocalist, member of rock
supergroup Cream who reformed recently for a phenomenally successful series
of concerts in London and New York will be there. Bruce wrote and sang on
most of Cream's original material (with lyricist Pete Brown, who will also be
attending,) including the classics "Sunshine of Your Love," "White Room,"
"Politician," and "I Feel Free."
Among those also receiving awards will be Snow Patrol and Keane.
