"This is a wonderful opportunity to join Habitat for Humanity to help make a difference," said Baldwin. "With such devastation in an area where many families were already in need of decent housing, it will be an honor to work alongside volunteers and homeowner families to help rebuild this community."
Baldwin will be raising walls and nailing up wall siding during the week. The Habitat homes were pre-built by volunteers Sept. 26 - 30 on New York City's Rockefeller Plaza, which was renamed Humanity Plaza for the week. Walls were framed, then taken apart in panels and shipped to Covington. Baldwin will also be joined by Americorps members, volunteers from around the country and by Habitat's RV Care-A-Vanners, volunteers who travel in personal recreation vehicles and volunteer on Habitat work sites.
Baldwin has starred in several films, including The Hunt for Red October, Miami Blues, Prelude to a Kiss, Malice, The Shadow, Glengarry Glen Ross, Heaven's Prisoners, Ghosts of Mississippi, The Edge, Pearl Harbor and Cat in the Hat, among others. In 2004, Baldwin received a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award nomination for his role in Wayne Kramer's, The Cooler. He also recently appeared in The Last Shot with Mathew Broderick and in Martin Scorsese's, The Aviator. In 2005, Baldwin can be seen in Cameron Crowe's film, Elizabethtown and in Jim Carrey's new comedy, Fun with Dick and Jane, also starring Tea Leoni and directed by Dean Parisot.
"We are grateful for Mr. Baldwin's support of Habitat," said Chris Clarke, senior vice president of communications for Habitat for Humanity International. "We are excited that he has joined us to be a part in the recovery effort in the Gulf Coast region."
Since St. Tammany West Habitat was founded, 74 homes have been completed in the Covington area.
About Operation Home Delivery
Operation Home Delivery is Habitat for Humanity's effort to assist families in need find housing and hope in the aftermath of the recent hurricanes that devastated Gulf Coast communities. One element of the program provides for volunteers to contribute to the effort by building at special events outside the Gulf region so that houses and funds can be "stockpiled" until cities and families in hurricane-ravaged areas are ready to begin rebuilding in place.
