Trident's SVP(TM) EX Powers New LCD TVs From Metz

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Trident Technologies, Inc. (TTI), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Trident Microsystems, Inc., (NASDAQ: TRID), a worldwide leader in developing advanced digital TV technology for the consumer digital video marketplace, today announced that Metz-Werke GmbH, a leader in the premium European TV market, will use Trident's SVP EX with DCRe(TM) to power its new family of Milos LCD TVs. The new sets, which include 26-inch, 32-inch and 37-inch models, are now shipping to Metz' select European dealers.

"Our goal at Metz is to design and manufacture the world's finest televisions. We will not compromise on any aspect of our products, and video performance is, of course, a critical feature," said Dr. Norbert Kotzbauer, Managing Director of Metz. "We are very happy with the video quality offered by Trident's SVP EX and we are particularly pleased with the SVP EX's noise suppression, sharpness and color management. Its advanced capability helps us to provide our customers with the best possible LCD TV picture quality," concluded Dr. Kotzbauer.

"We are extremely pleased that Metz is taking full advantage of SVP EX's superior video quality in its new Milos family of LCD TVs," said Dr. J.H. Chang, President of TTI. Dr. Chang continued, "High-end European TV consumers are quite sophisticated and SVP EX with ten-bit DCRe(TM) processing was chosen by Metz to meet their demand for exceptional video quality. It is our determination and product strategy to continue raising the bar of video quality in every new generation of our products to offer uncompromising video quality to the mass market."

The SVP EX(TM) family features Trident's Digital Cinema Reality Engine, DCRe(TM), which delivers optimal video fidelity to offer consumers compelling, cinema-like video images. DCRe(TM) includes:

material.
-- Ten-bit, dual-channel scaler to ensure crisp images regardless of the

skin-color correction, and white-balance control to offer vivid, bright
colors previously available only in the most sophisticated internally-
developed designs of consumer electronics OEMs.

displays.
-- Advanced content-adaptive 3D noise reduction to dramatically reduce the
popping and crackling that is especially prevalent on today's LCD TVs.

sharpness for advanced TVs.
-- Programmable LCD overdrive to eliminate the blurring of fast-moving
objects that is common to many LCD displays.
-- Integrated VBI slicer and V-chip/closed-caption/teletext accelerator to
support worldwide TV data and messaging needs.
