Former Minneapolis Ad Exec Joins Denver Team
DENVER, Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The Denver Newspaper Agency today announced that Pamela D. Henson, former senior vice president for sales and marketing for the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, will join the DNA advertising team in the same role.
Ms. Henson will assume her new duties on Nov. 15. Kirk MacDonald, president and CEO of the DNA, said Ms. Henson will oversee all print and interactive sales, direct mail, niche products, marketing and community relations for the Agency.
MacDonald said Ms. Henson's "view of the media world, which is being transformed by on-line development, niche products and free distribution products, makes her the best candidate to help build our business in such a hyper-competitive environment."
He added that he expects Ms. Henson "will fit into our Colorado community very well. I'm thrilled we were able to attract someone with such unique talents who can also build strong bonds with our existing leadership team."
The Agency publishes the Rocky Mountain News and The Denver Post, two of the nation's largest dailies, under terms of a five-year-old joint operating agreement designed to preserve editorial independence while combining business functions.
Ms. Henson said she was "truly elated" to join the DNA's "innovative and progressive management team." She described Denver as a "media-rich market with huge opportunities to create out-of-the box, non-traditional solutions for advertisers to reach their customers."
"Working with the DNA's talented sales leaders, I envision a collaborative effort to position the DNA as a one-stop shop for media needs throughout Denver and Colorado."
She added, "true relationship building -- both within our organization and within the business community -- is the best way to maximize potential for our employees and our customers."
In addition to Ms. Henson's appointment, MacDonald also announced that Colleen Brewer, current vice president for display advertising, will take on additional duties, including display interactive sales, and working alongside Ms. Henson and marketing vice president, Tom Botelho, on the Agency's myriad of marketing functions.
"Online is a vital component for retailers to reach current and future customers," said Ms. Brewer. "I look forward to working with someone of Pam's talents to blend our current sales efforts into a more efficient model for Denver retailers."
Fran Wills, interactive vice president, will focus on what MacDonald called strategic development of new web-based assets, such as new classified verticals for automotive, real estate and help-wanted, as well as development of a new local search product and other key initiatives.
Besides Brewer, Wills and Botelho, also reporting to Ms. Henson will be Ressie Pate, vice president for classified, and Tracy Ulmer, director of community relations.
Prior to joining the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Ms. Henson, 44, served as the senior advertising executive for the Los Angeles Daily News and the Baltimore Sun.
A journalism graduate of the University of Southern California, Ms. Henson is married to David, a high school teacher of history and economics. They have three children: Hans, 16, Samantha, 12 and Christina, 6.
