Charlize Theron's Corset Creation Sold for Record Amount at Frederick's of Hollywood's Lingerie Art Auction
Hollywood's leading ladies, including Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, Jessica Alba, and Tea Leoni, joined Theron in designing corsets for the Third Annual Lingerie Art Auction
HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Mix Charlize Theron with some satin and heavy beading and the result is an $18,000 corset. Designed for the Frederick's of Hollywood Third Annual Lingerie Auction, the Oscar-winning actress' corset sold for a record amount at the event's live auction. The Lingerie Art Auction returns again after two hugely successful programs, for which more than 100 celebrities raised funds and awareness for life-changing causes.
Ms. Theron was in good company; her corset was auctioned live along with fellow Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman, whose white satin, floral and sequin design fetched $10,000. Designs by Jessica Alba (who hand-painted her creation), Tea Leoni, Sandra Bernhard and event chair, Julianne Moore were all auctioned at the Frederick's event to benefit the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance, held on October 27.
The benefit auction took place at the new flagship boutique of the legendary lingerie retailer, chaired by four-time Oscar nominee Julianne Moore.
"It is thrilling for Frederick's to be part of such a creative and worthwhile event," said Linda LoRe, president and CEO, Frederick's of Hollywood. Each year, we look forward to collaborating with Hollywood's biggest names to create pieces of wearable art for a great cause."
Additionally, eight corsets were sold via a silent auction during the course of the event. Celebrities such as Kiera Knightley, Susan Sarandon, Reese Witherspoon and Sela Ward lent their designs to the cause. Ms. Ward's handmade corset brought approximately $2,000.
Some of the corset hightlights include:
* Tea Leoni's design includes a detailed 3-page sketch, outlining the
precise details for development.
* Tori Amos' "Midsummer's Night Dream" corset was personally crafted by
the singer. Her corset is accompanied by a story she wrote that explains
each element of her design.
* Racing enthusiast Patrick Dempsey decorated his corset with patches and
checkered-flag ribbon.
Celebrities including Val Kilmer, Matthew Perry, Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Bijou Phillips joined Julianne Moore and Frederick's at the auction.
But just because someone was unable to attend the event doesn't mean they can't own a piece of lingerie history. An online auction begins October 28th and continues through November 6th. Visitors to www.fredericks.com web site have the chance to bid on personally signed designs by such celebrities as Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas, Patrick Dempsey, Jamie-Lynn DiScala, Shannen Doherty, Rosario Dawson, Alan Cumming, Tori Amos and Allison Janney.
One hundred percent of the proceeds from the sale of the celebrity-designed corsets will go to the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance. In all, Frederick's of Hollywood expects to raise more than $100,000 for the charity.
The TS Alliance is the only voluntary health organization in the United States dedicated to finding a cure for tuberous sclerosis complex while improving the lives of those affected through research, education and support.
