at the 41st Chicago International Film Festival

EVENT: Sneak preview unveiling ceremony for the 2006 Black Heritage
Commemorative stamp honoring, Hattie McDaniel, to be issued
in 2006. The unveiling will take place at the Festival's
annual Black Perspectives tribute.

Committee of the Chicago International Film Festival to
unveil the Hattie McDaniel Commemorative stamp.

BACKGROUND: As part of the 41st Chicago International Film Festival, the
Postal Service will unveil the 2006 Black Heritage
Commemorative stamp series which honors Hattie McDaniel.
This commemorative stamp highlights the achievements of the
actress, singer, and radio and television performer. McDaniel
became the first African-American to win an Academy Award for
her role in the 1939 film Gone with the Wind. The stamp will
be issued January 2006.

Now in its ninth season, Black Perspectives showcases the
talents of black filmmakers through programming that features
screenings, panel discussions, and an annual tribute
celebrating the achievements of outstanding African Americans
in the world of cinema (Terrence Howard - 2005).
