Verizon Launches and Demonstrates FiOS TV, Company's New, All-Fiber Video Service

KELLER, Texas, Sept. 21 -- Verizon will hold a news conference Thursday, Sept. 22, to announce details of the company's new video service and planned offering. Texas Gov. Rick Perry will join Verizon executives to describe the new service and its benefits. The event will include the nation's first public demonstration of FiOS TV. The new, all-fiber service represents the next generation in television entertainment and will provide customers in Texas now, and in other states in the future, a competitive alternative to cable and satellite.

BACKGROUND: In 2004, Verizon began constructing its 100-percent fiber-optic network, and will pass 3 million homes with fiber by the end of 2005. This announcement and demonstration of the company's new FiOS TV service represents the realization of Verizon's new network, which uses the unlimited capacity of glass and light to deliver voice, data and now, television.
