Church Choirs Raise Their Voices for Watford Peace Hospice

Choirs from four local churches join forces on Saturday October 8 to
present a Supper Concert as part of Voices for Hospices 2005. All proceeds
will go to The Peace Hospice in Watford that needs £2.8 million this year to
continue its care for terminally ill patients in South West Hertfordshire.
The concert of choral music with orchestra and organ will be held at St
Michael & All Angels Church in Mildred Avenue, Watford, and will include a
new setting of Psalm 150 by Gareth Leyshon of All Saints Leavesden. The
concert will also feature the Faure Requiem and Handel's Zadok the Priest.
The combined choir is formed from the churches of St Andrew's Watford, St
James Bushey, All Saints Leavesden, St Michael & All Angels Watford and other
singers from the area. The conductor will be Chris Weaver and soloists taking
part are Andy Benoy (organ), Frances Sims (soprano) and Roddy Williams
(bass).
Tickets for the concert, which starts at 7.30pm followed by a buffet
supper, cost £10 and for the concert alone, £6. Tickets can be obtained by

Information about Gareth Leyshon
Gareth Leyshon was born in Watford in 1972 and studied composition
privately at the Watford School of music with Michael Regan, continuing his
musical education at the University of Wales, Bangor. After graduating he
worked as a choir director and church organist in Watford and, later, in
York.
In 2003 he moved to France where he studies composition with Michel
Merlet at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris.
Information about Chris Weaver
Chris weaver, locally renowned musician, has conducted varied choral and
orchestral concerts throughout the region. As Head of Music at Rickmansworth
School he has given many students the opportunity to play and learn music and
has organised international tours in Europe and North America. Chris sings
with the Choir of the Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields under Sir Neville
Marriner and has toured all over the world with them.
