KARE 11 Launches First Local Twenty-Four Hour Digital Weather Service

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- KARE 11, the Twin Cities-based NBC affiliate has launched a new, digital weather service. KARE 11 WeatherPlus provides local and national information twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week. The service is a partnership of KARE 11 News and NBC.

"When you come to WeatherPlus, you instantly access local weather information compiled by KARE 11 meteorologists," said KARE 11 chief meteorologist Ken Barlow. "Thanks to an innovative graphic design, there is no waiting. Local information is always there, even during commercials," he added.

"Basic current and forecast information is always there," said KARE 11 president and general manager John Remes. "But the real beauty of KARE 11 WeatherPlus is that KARE meteorologists come on eight times an hour with detailed forecasts. And of course they will have the latest emergency and related traffic and travel information."

"Our partnership with NBC completes the picture. National weather will be reported by NBC and they can draw on the resources of hundreds of NBC affiliates," Remes continued. "KARE 11 WeatherPlus is a step beyond the Weather Channel. Now we have a locally oriented weather service backed by the power of a major network."

WeatherPlus went into service August 1st. It is currently available to all digital cable customers in the Twin Cities of Comcast, Charter and Time Warner. HDTV users can receive the service over the air on Channel 11-2. It is also streamed live on kare11.com.
